The goal of this workshop was design a concept for a electric hydrofoil poweboat and to optimize the aerodynamics of our designs. We made use of simple online simulations from Airshaper. After the third iteration, we were able to reduce the drag coefficient to 0.113.
challenge
The setup of the workshop was a fictional competition, Formula H2O for electric hydrofoils. We were given one week to design an electric hydrofoil powerboat, operated by two pilots, in groups of three people. We visited the Antwerp boat builder Bernico. Their passion for racing is certainly in their DNA.
At the end of the “Explore Design Week,” there was an exhibition so everyone could view each other’s work. To present our design, following visuals were created.
